Trinity Sunday
The mystery of God as Three Persons in one Being is beyond our human comprehension: we use finite language to describe that which is infinite. In simple terms: God the Father is our creator, our source of life and our goal of living. He created us in His own image and likeness. God the Son: The humanity that God assumed was revealed in Jesus, sent on earth to reveal salvation to God’s people. The gift of the Eucharist, given to us through Jesus, is the divine and everlasting gift that nourishes and strengthens our faith. God the Holy Spirit: in the gift of the Holy Spirit, God became the power and presence that dwells within us, enkindles our faith and leads and guides us back to Him, through Jesus.
At baptism, we have the privilege of entering into the life and mystery of the Trinity of God. We honour the Trinity every time we bless ourselves. Blessing ourselves is a natural start and finish to prayer; it is, indeed, a prayer in itself. Many of us were taught to start and end each day with the Sign of the Cross. May that teaching be our practice every day as we strive to grow in the image and likeness of God our creator.
