Sacrament of Confirmation

The Celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation will take place in the parish on Saturday 15th August.

Ceremony 1
Murlog National School @ 10:30 am

Ceremony 2
Lifford NS & Cloghfin NS @ 1:30 pm

A small number of young people who also hope to be confirmed this year and now attend other schools are asked to come to the 1:30 pm Ceremony on that day.

This is a wonderful occasion of joy. While the parish already had our Ceremony of Light and some preparation has been done at home and in the schools, it is important that every person who is to be confirmed, attends a special Preparation Afternoon on Sunday 9th August at 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm in the Parish Hall, Lifford, beside Lifford NS.

That is also the day of registration for Confirmation of each young person. There will be a practical and spiritual preparation for the Sacrament.
(Please bring your own pen on the day and your own bottle of water/refreshment. )

NB: For the ceremony, Covid-19 protocols will mean that one seat per ‘family’ will be allocated.

More details later will be published here at a later date.

In this weekends Newsletter we have included links to download the July and August editions of ‘Messenger Magazine’ for free:

July Issue:

Kevin O’Rourke SJ draws inspiration from those people from cleaners to senators who go beyond their own self-interest in doing their jobs; referring to Pope Francis’ warning about our food ‘culture of waste’ Tina McGrath invites us to consider how faith can be reflected in our attitude to food consumption and waste; as we ponder the impact of our recent diminished activity on the environment, we publish an excerpt from Brain Grogan SJ’s latest book, Creation Walk, an exploration of the thirty steps of the creation of our world. And Patrick Corkery SJ reflects on relevant messages for today from St Ignatius, whose feast day is 31 July.

Our Masterpieces of Christian Art article this month features an Icon in the Basilica of St Mary Major, in Rome, which many popes through the centuries have prayed at in times of crisis and distress, we have another tempting yet simple supper dish in our cookery section plus all our regular articles on gardening, crossword, prayer and young readers pages.

August Issue:

View August Messenger here

Peter McVerry SJ says we need to apply the focus on common purpose that COVID-19 taught us to the even greater crisis of climate change; Nikolaas Sintobin SJ considers how fear can affect us both emotionally and spiritually and how we can best deal with it;  and Gerry O’Hanlon SJ, asking where God is in all this, suggests that we can find and love God in the people around us. There’s an inspiring interview with Ireland’s young hockey star, Elena Tice about the role faith has played in her life and career and an article on the history of chocolate, a comfort food beloved of many.

Our gardening section offers solutions to slugs, cookery has a warming Seafood Chowder and we continue our tour around landmark churches plus all our regular items on prayer, young peoples’ pages and Masterpieces of Christian Art.

SUMMER MASS SCHEDULE:

Saturday Vigil Mass at 6:30 pm

Sunday Morning Mass at 9:00 am Mass at 11:00 am

Monday - Friday Mass at 9:30 am

Monday & Thursday Mass at 7:00 pm

Please remember that all Masses are on the webcam.
Please note that that collection boxes will be available at each Mass so that you can make your weekly contribution.

In order to keep everyone safe, and because some of our parishioners may be a little fearful of coming into a larger crowd, there are two additional Masses in the Summer Schedule. The Bishops have agreed to suspend the ’Sunday’ obligation during this time. To assist people, everyone who is part of our faith community is asked to attend one Mass in the week if you feel able to do so. e.g. You may decide to attend the Monday morning Mass, or the Thursday evening Mass as your weekly commitment to your faith. Those who were in the habit of attending Mass daily, are still welcome to do so.

BAPTISMS:

It is lovely that several of our young parents have already made contact seeking a
suitable time for the sacrament of Baptism for their newborn child.
During this Summer Schedule, Fr Colm is happy to facilitate Baptisms as much as possible. Please contact the Parish Office directly or via the ‘Get in Touch’ section of the website.

FIRST COMMUNIONS:
The dates for the First Holy Communion in our Parish have now been re-sheduled. First Holy Communion will be celebrated at two Masses on the 25th July with the children of Lifford and Cloughfin schools receiving the Sacrament at 10.30am Mass and the children of Murlog National School at 1.30pm Mass. Also, the day before, Friday 24th July, the children will celebrate the Sacrament of First Confession.

CONFIRMATIONS:
The Bishop has asked that Confirmations will take place in parishes throughout the diocese towards the end of August. More details will be published as soon as the parish receives further guidance.

MARRIAGE CEREMONIES:
A number of couples have already been in touch to reschedule their wedding. If anyone needs to book a date for their wedding, please contact Fr Colm.
