TWENTIETH SUNDAY ORDINARY TIME (YEAR A) – THE FAITH OF THE CANAANITE WOMAN
There are many examples in the Gospels of Jesus testing people’s faith by the questions He asked, the challenges He presented and the responses He gave. His response to the unnamed Canaanite woman, who asked Jesus to cure her sick daughter, is one of these examples. In her persistence, however, and in her trust and confidence of the power of Jesus’ healing hand the Canaanite woman lived out the principle Jesus Himself taught and this Gospel story is an example of His ministry to all who have the gift of faith.
‘Woman, you have great faith. Let your wish be granted.’ (St Matthew 15:28)
