Parish Newsletter – Sunday 29th November 2020

Your Parish Newsletter for Sunday 29th November 2020.

The Government has relaxed the COVID-19 restrictions on Friday the 27th November 2020.

The St. Patrick’s Church Mass schedule will be the same except it will only be on the WebCam until Monday evening. No one may attend any services in the Church until Tuesday 1st December when the Church will reopen. The Church shall remain open at all other daytime hours throughout the weekend up to Tuesday for the purpose of private prayer if people wish to call in.

This is very welcome news for all of us, but remember we must keep our guard up and continue to observe the guidelines in the prevention of the spread of the coronavirus.

Welcome Back !

In addition to the current Mass schedule, Fr Colm will say the Angelus & Rosary each day at 12 noon for our safe keeping.

May they rest in peace.

SYMPATHY:

We extend our sympathy to the Sons, Daughters, Grandchildren, Brothers and Sisters of Ted Porter Croaghan Heights who’s requiem mass and burial takes place in Murlog on Sunday at 11am Mass. May he rest in peace

COLLECTION:

THANK YOU for your generosity to the collection last week, which amounted to €2101.50. Thank you also to those who contribute by Standing order. Your on-going financial support of the parish is much appreciated as it is vital in sustaining our parish.

You can request envelopes by simply clicking on this link: ‘Get in Touch‘ and then select Parish Envelopes from the drop-down menu.

CHRISTMAS MASSES:

I am proposing to celebrate five public Christmas Masses:
Christmas Eve (24th): 6.00pm and 9.00pm Christmas Day (25th): 7.00am, 9.00am and 11.00am

As you know, the Christmas Masses normally attract large numbers. It would be lovely to see a congregation again, but the safety and protection of everyone attending Mass is paramount and, to help with this, I am introducing a ‘ticket’ system for the two days, to ensure that numbers attending will be fairly evenly spread over the five Masses. This system is not something I would like to do on a regular basis but, hopefully, it will be helpful to all of us this Christmas.

To book a ticket(s) for a particular Mass, you should ring or email Lorna at the parish office, 074 9142001: or email: clonleighparish@derrydiocese.org between 10am and 12noon, Monday – Thursday. Lorna will need to know, 1) which Mass you wish to book for, 2) the name of the person booking, 3) the number of family members being booked in, 4) contact number/email, ( Children 7 or under do not require a ticket ) In due course, arrangements will be made so that those who have booked tickets can pick them up at the church.

This system will ensure at least that we will be organised and ready for a Christmas opening. In the meantime, I ask for your prayers for the reopening of our churches and for the safety of everyone. Thank you very much for your co-operation and patience. Fr. Colm.

SYMBOLISM OF THE ADVENT WREATH:

The Advent Wreath draws us to focus on the advent (coming) of the Light of Christ into the world.
The wreath is made of evergreens, signifying everlasting life.
The circle of the wreath, which has no beginning or end, symbolises the eternity of God,
unending love, the immortality of the soul, and the promise of everlasting life in Christ.
Cones and berries can be used to decorate the wreath,
and are symbolic of the fruits of salvation.
The four candles represent the four weeks of Advent:
(1. Hope, 2. Peace, 3. Joy and 4. Love).
They are lit gradually – one each week – drawing us out of darkness into light.
This symbolises not only First Coming of Christ into the world,
but His Second Coming at the end of history.
Three candles are purple, the penitential colour used in Advent (and Lent).
One candle is rose; it is lit on the third Sunday of Advent,
known as Gaudete Sunday, (Gaudete meaning Rejoice),
symbolising our joyful expectation of the imminent coming of the Light of Christ.
The white candle in the middle represents Christ, and is lit on Christmas Day.

Pilgrimage of Remembrance:

A ‘virtual’ version of our Pilgrimage of Remembrance will be available on our Facebook page this weekend and I hope that it will be a good resource for everyone in this last week of November.

THE NET:

The November edition of The Net is now available online, on www.derrydiocese.org . As always, it features a wide variety of news, interesting and inspiring interviews, articles and photos from parishes across the diocese. You are invited to read The Net, on the diocesan website, at your convenience.
