NEW YEAR’S EVE PRAYER SERVICE & BLESSING FOR FAMILIES:

I invite you to join with me via the parish webcam on Thursday evening (31 Dec), at 8.00pm, for a short time of prayer and blessing for our families, in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. As we enter 2021, our prayer for God’s protection for ourselves, our families and our parish family are needed, more than ever. This special liturgy is aimed at providing you and your families an opportunity to take a short time of sacred space and prayerful focus as we prepare to enter 2021. Fr Colm.

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR PEACE:

Celebrated by the Church on 1 January. “A Culture of Care as a Path to Peace” is the theme chosen by Pope Francis. The full text of the Pope’s Message can be accessed on catholicbishops.ie

THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS – PRAYER BOOKLET:

I encourage you any your family members to pray the Twelve Days of Christmas in your home using this booklet which, I hope, you were able to pick up in the church. It is a particularly relevant resource for these days of Christmas, now that our church is closed again. The booklet is also available online, on https://www.derrydiocese.org/news/family-prayer-service-for-use-at-home-this-christmas

SUNDAY SCRIPTURE READINGS:

Familiarising ourselves with the Word of God before we hear it at Sunday Mass is a good way of gaining a better understanding of what God is saying to us in the Scriptures. Perhaps you might consider making a new year’s resolution to look through the Readings each week this coming year, in advance of Sunday Mass. Next Sunday, 3 January, is the Second Sunday of Christmas; the Gospel we will listen to is St John 1:1:18. You can access the Scripture Readings on catholicbishops.ie/readings.

Dear Parishioners,
I wish you and your families peace, hope, good health, happiness and friendship for the New Year and throughout 2021. I pray the blessings of the Christ Child upon you throughout the year, and join you all in praying that 2021 will be a year for us to remember for all the right reasons! Thank you to all who have given of their time and talents to the life of the parish this year. It has obviously been a difficult year for parishes and parishioners to stay connected and involved in parish life but, please God, some form of normality will return sooner rather than later, and we can work together in practical ways to build and develop our parish community and life. My ministry in our parish is nourished and greatly encouraged by your faithful witness, commitment and support; for that, I thank you most sincerely, and I look forward to journeying with you in faith as we embrace together the challenges and opportunities of 2021.
I deeply appreciate your good wishes and generosity to me at Christmas. In return, I promise to keep you all in my prayers each day. May God bless you all. Fr Colm.

I am delighted to offer you a Prayer Booklet to facilitate prayer, scripture and reflection in your home, with family, or during quiet time in the church, over the Twelve Days of Christmas. It will be available as you leave the Church after the Christmas Masses. In particular, you might bring one home to a family member or friend who is not able to get out to Mass. The booklet is also available online, on www.derrydiocese.org
