SUNDAY 17 JANUARY 2021 – SECOND SUNDAY ORDINARY TIME – ST JOHN 1:35-42
A fundamental and life-long element of discipleship is growing in knowledge of and relationship with Jesus and handing on the faith to others. We can deepen our knowledge and relationship with Him through prayer, through Scripture and through the Eucharist; we can share the Good News with others through our words, attitudes, actions and example. The two disciples in St John’s Gospel today wanted to spend time with Jesus, to get to know Him better, and they then told others of what they had witnessed. We are the disciples of our time. Jesus’ invitation to “Come and see” – to get to know Him better and to spread the Word is offered to all of us. We ask God today for the grace to be courageous in our discipleship and ever-aware of and open to the invitation of Jesus.

Vigil: Saturday 6.30pm, Sunday Morning: 11.00am
(Note: there will only be one Sunday Morning Mass – 11.00am – while the church remains closed.
WEEKDAY MASSES:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: 9.30am.
The Angelus and Rosary will be recited each day at 12.00noon. Please join in via webcam.

COLLECTION:
THANK YOU for your generosity to the collection this last two weeks, which amounted to €680 and €781. I continue to be available in the church each day after the Rosary for those who wish to bring along their envelope. Envelopes can also be left through the door of the Parochial House.

SUNDAY OF THE WORD OF GOD: SUNDAY 24th JANUARY 2021
We continue with our Bible Catechesis Corner, providing fundamental information on the Bible and its contents. This is offered to help build on our knowledge of and familiarity with the overall structure and contents of the Bible and is part of our celebration of Sunday of the Word of God, which we will celebrate next Sunday.
CATECHESIS CORNER
Q. What does the New Testament of the Bible contain?
A. The New Testament comprises 27 of the 73 books of the Bible. These are made up of: the four Gospels (Sts Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) and the Acts of the Apostles (written by St Luke); St Paul’s letters (epistles) to the early Christian churches (eg, to the Romans, Corinthians, Ephesians); ‘Pastoral Letters’ (eg, Timothy; Hebrews); ‘Catholic letters’ (eg, James, Peter, John); the Book of Revelation. The New Testament tells how God fulfilled His promise of blessing through a new and everlasting covenant in His Son, Jesus Christ. The Second Reading at our Sunday Mass is taken from the New Testament.
Familiarising ourselves with the Word of God before we hear it at Sunday Mass is a good way of gaining a better understanding of what God is saying to us in the Scriptures. Perhaps you might consider taking a look through the Readings each week this coming year, in advance of Sunday Mass. Each week in the newsletter, I give the reference for the Gospel reading for the following Sunday, so that you can check it out, either in your bible or on our parish website.
Pope Francis tells us that, “The Bible is not just a beautiful book to keep on a shelf. It is the Word of life to be sown, a gift that the Risen Jesus asks us to accept in order to have life in His name”.
So, if you have a Bible in your home, please take it out to help you in getting to grips with the information provided in our Catechesis Corner each week. Parents are asked to share the Questions & Answers with their children or, vice versa!
ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION:
This is the version that we recite during each of our Masses – you are encouraged to pray it
and to teach it to children.
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.
