Parish Newsletter for Sunday 6th June 2021

Your Parish Newsletter for Sunday 6th June 2021:

FEAST OF CORPUS CHRISTI – THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST

As part of the final blessing each time we attend Mass, we are asked to go forth in faith and love, taking up the mission of Jesus and spreading the fruits of the Eucharist. Our participation in the Eucharist at Mass unites us with Jesus and with one another in a unique and intimate way that defines our very identify as baptised children of God and our call to mission. We pray today that our familiarity with Holy Communion and with the dismissal words of the Mass will never allow us to become complacent about the everlasting gift that Jesus gave us or its centrality to the responsibilities and challenges that come with the privilege.

‘I am the living bread which has come down from heaven, says the Lord.
Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever.’

PARISH FINANCE COUNCIL:

On Wednesday evening of this week I met with the Parish Financial Council. Matters discussed included the upcoming graveyard extension project and indoor toilets, upgrades to the Community Hall, fundraising, Charitable Donations (Gift Aid) Scheme and the future of Boyagh old school.

Graveyard Extension and Indoor Toilets projects: With Diocesan and County Council permission now having been granted, and contractor expressions of interest having been submitted following invitation via the parish newsletter, the tender process will commence shortly.

Charitable Donations Scheme (Gift Aid): With a great response to date from parishioners eligible to sign up, the completion of Revenue documentation to enable claims to be made is a work in progress that is now nearing completion and we should be in a position to make our first claim within the next few weeks.

Community Hall: Some upgrades of a minor nature are being and will be carried out, with the assistance of grant aid, to ensure the hall is kept in good condition. It is hoped that more groups will seek to use the hall in the coming year, so that the hall will be a well-used and useful facility for the parish community.

Boyagh old school: Arrangements are being made to have the school site tidied up in the coming weeks. With the help of legal advice and assistance, it is hoped that suitable rental arrangements can be made in due course. This is a work-in-progress.

Fundraising: It is hoped to set up a fundraising working group in the parish, with members from the different areas of the parish involved. With the capital works projects coming up, it is hoped that some fundraising activities will generate income to help to meet the costs. To this end, I would welcome volunteers who would be interested in becoming part of a parish fundraising working group. Please let me know if you are interested.

I am very grateful to the members of the Parish Finance Council for their support, good advice and counsel.
