Parish Newsletter for Sunday 10th October 2021

Your Parish Newsletter for Sunday 10th October 2021:

TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (YEAR B)
GOSPEL: ST MARK 10:17-30 CHRIST IS OUR WEALTH
‘It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.’

These words of Jesus are a wake-up call to all of us to the challenges of discipleship, to the building the kingdom of God, to the richness of the gift of Scripture that enables us to follow Jesus and live a life that will lead us towards the wealth of the eternal happiness that God offers in His heavenly home.

SACRAMENT OF CONFESSIONS:

Regular Confessions will resume next week, on Saturday evenings (commencing Sat 16 Oct), from 5.30pm – 6.15pm. Confessions will be heard in the sacristy. Covid safety precautions will be in place. Those waiting for the sacrament should be seated in the seats at the front right-hand side of the church (in front of the tabernacle). I do hope that as many as possible will take up the opportunity to receive the sacrament, now that it will be available on a regular weekly basis. In particular, I encourage parents to take children along to receive the sacrament.

WE WELCOME the Choir back today. “To sing is to pray twice.” (St Augustine). The music and singing of hymns greatly enhances our Sunday liturgy and it is great to have it back again. Sincere thanks to Grace and Rachel for keeping the music going in the long period when we have not been able to have choir. If you would like to join the choir, please feel very welcome to come along; it would be great to have you. Please note: all Covid guidelines will be strictly adhered to.

CLONLEIGH PARISH – GROWING IN FAITH TOGETHER:

PARISH ASSEMBLY (GATHERING):

Sunday 17 October
3.00pm (one hour maximum)

Community Hall, Lifford

(Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions and precautions, hospitality will fall short of serving refreshments)

Our Guest Speaker on the afternoon will be Mr Brian McKean, from the Diocese of Raphoe,
who will help us to launch our Growing in Faith Together project.

This is an open invitation to all parishioners to come along so that, together, with the support of Brian, we can start to consider the priorities and direction of our parish at this time and for the future. We will look at the liturgical, pastoral and administrative aspects of parish life that, working together, we might develop, enhance and advance.

We are indebted and very grateful to those who currently give of their time and talents to various aspects of parish life and very much look forward to your continued support as we embrace this project.

OCTOBER is a month of special devotion to Our Lady and, in particular, to praying the Rosary. The Rosary invites us to reflect on the great mysteries of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, whose Mother, Mary, said ‘Yes’ to God’s will and, in so doing, became a model in faith for all of us. You are encouraged to make special effort to recite the Family Rosary in your homes during this month. Parents are encouraged to teach and pray the Rosary with their children. Also, you may wish to make a special effort this month to join our Rosary Group to recite the Rosary, each weekday, starting twenty minutes before Mass. Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us.

O C T O B E R – M O N T H O F M I S S I O N:

St Thérèse of Lisieux is Patron Saint of Missions. Thérèse became Patron Saint of Missions, not because she ever went anywhere or travelled abroad to do specialised missionary work, but because of her simple, prayerful and missionary lifestyle, remaining rooted and confident in God’s merciful love in her life. Thérèse’s spirituality was about doing the ordinary things of life with extraordinary love.
We all do ‘ordinary things’ every day – it is in the ordinary routines of life, in the everyday encounters that we have opportunities to be the face of Jesus to others and make Him known and loved, in the lives of our families, in our homes, in our church, in our parish.
in
As we start our Growing in Faith Together initiative in our parish, the spirituality of St Thérèse is an example for us of how we might make our parish a better place into the future, for ourselves and for future generations, by doing little things, together, prayerfully and with confidence, developing our faith and serving one another in our faith journey, in our own parish.
We pray today, through the intercession of St Thérèse, that our efforts will always be Gospel-centred, based on the example and service of Jesus.

Saint Thérèse, Patroness of the Missions, pray for us.

A series of presentations on Mission Today – what mission means in today’s society – will be available online, by Zoom, on the Tuesday and Thursday evenings of the month of October. Each presentation is free and will consist of a short talk, discussion on the topic and a chance to ask questions. For more information on the individual presentations, the speakers and to receive the Zoom links, visit derrydiocese.org/mission-month

PLEASE NOTE that, for the winter months, the church now closes in the evenings at the earlier time of 5.30pm. The gates to the graveyard will remain open but, as the evenings grow darker, I would ask that anyone wishing to visit their loved ones’ grave(s) later in the evening should take great care. Thank you.

BLESSÈD CARLO ACUTIS:

This date last year (10 October 2020), Carlo Acutis (1991 – 2006) was beatified by the Church, in Assisi, Italy. Carlo, who was born in London, moved to Milan in Italy with his parents where, at the tender age of 15, he died from leukaemia. While Carlo was an ordinary young boy who shared the interests of other young people, he was a boy of remarkable faith who, from a very early age, believed that real happiness is found by putting God first in everything. Carlo was known for his cheerfulness, his care for others, his computer skills and his deep devotion to the Eucharist, saying it was his “highway to heaven”. Carlo documented Eucharistic miracles from around the world and catalogued them all onto a website which he created himself in the months before his death. Carlo embraced his illness with remarkable bravery, offering up his suffering “for the Pope and for the Church”. He died on 12 October 2006. Carlo’s mother, still a young woman, was in the unique position last year of attending her son’s beatification.
Our young parishioners, in particular, are encouraged to take the time to research, on internet, the life, work and legacy of Blessèd Carlo Acutis.

REQUEST: If there happens to be anyone in the parish who is into the art of calligraphy, I have a small job for you! I would appreciate if you could give me a ring, when convenient. Thank you! Fr Colm.

Please pray for one another and for our parish. Please pray the Parish Prayer.

PARISH PRAYER

God our Father,
pour forth Your Holy Spirit on our parish.
Guide us in Your ways, grant us Your vision. Be our wisdom.

Open our hearts and minds to Your Holy Word,
strengthen us with the Holy Eucharist,
our food for the journey.
Help us to be people of prayer,
trusting in Your constant presence
in the challenges that we face.

With Your help,
may our parish always be a place where
Your love is known, Your light shines
and our parish families grow together in faith and mission.

We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

St Patrick, pray for us.
