Parish Newsletter for Sunday 17th October 2021

Your Parish Newsletter for Sunday 17th October 2021:

St. Patrick’s Church, Saturday 16th October 2021 at 6.25pm

TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (YEAR B)

WE ARE CALLED TO SERVE, NOT TO BE SERVED GOSPEL: MARK 10:35-45

Jesus’ teachings were always more than words – He taught by His own actions and example; He taught by His life of service. A life of service – seeking to serve rather than to be served – is central to living out the mission of the Church.

Mass Schedule for the Parish this Week:

For those who are unable to come out to church, all our Masses will continue to be available on our parish webcam, and our 11.00am Mass is also broadcast live each Sunday on Finn Valley Radio: 95.8FM

WebCam – WATCH LIVE

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: 10.00am. Tuesday: 9.30am

The Rosary will be recited on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 9.40am (before Mass) and, on Tuesday, at 9.10am

Saturday, Vigil Mass: 6.30pm Sunday: Masses at 9.00am and 11.00am

THE SAFETY OF EVERYONE IN CHURCH IS PARAMOUNT. PLEASE REMEMBER TO MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING AT ALL TIMES. WE ARE BLESSED TO HAVE PLENTY OF SPACE AND AVAILABLE SEATS IN OUR CHURCH, SO IT IS IMPORTANT FOR US TO USE THE SPACE WELL. SEATS SHOULD NOT BE OVER-CROWDED. PLEASE ALSO WEAR A FACE COVERING IN CHURCH. FACE COVERINGS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE BACK OF THE CHURCH FOR ANYONE WHO FORGETS THEIRS.

CLONLEIGH PARISH – GROWING IN FAITH TOGETHER

SEE YOU TODAY (SUNDAY) AT OUR PARISH ASSEMBLY (GATHERING)

3.00pm, for one hour maximum, in our Community Hall, Lifford

(Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions and precautions, hospitality will fall short of serving refreshments)

Our Guest Speaker on the afternoon will be Mr Brian McKean, from the Diocese of Raphoe,
who will help us to launch our Growing in Faith Together project.

This is an open invitation to all parishioners to come along so that, together, with the support of Brian, we can start to consider the priorities and direction of our parish at this time and for the future. I do hope to see your there. We will look at the liturgical, pastoral and administrative aspects of parish life that, working together, we might develop, enhance and advance.
We are indebted and very grateful to those who currently give of their time and talents to various aspects of parish life and very much look forward to your continued support as we embrace this project.

“The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve” – today’s Gospel.

SACRAMENT OF CONFESSIONS:

Regular Confessions will resume this weekend, on Saturday evenings from 5.30pm – 6.15pm, in the sacristy. Covid safety precautions will be in place. Those waiting for the sacrament should be seated in the seats at the front right-hand side of the church (in front of the tabernacle).
I do hope that as many as possible will take up the opportunity to receive the sacrament, now that it will be available on a regular weekly basis. In particular, I encourage parents to take children along to receive the sacrament.

OCTOBER MONTH OF MISSION:

PROPAGATION OF THE FAITH (MISSION SUNDAY) COLLECTION: There is a special, additional envelope in your box for this collection which is due next Sunday – Mission Sunday. The proceeds of the Mission Sunday collection are channelled through Missio Ireland (formerly World Missions Irleland), which is the official support organisation for the overseas mission of the Irish Catholic Church, bringing the prayers, solidarity and financial help of the Church in Ireland to Christian communities in countries in other parts of the world, who are in much need of our help.

Saint Thérèse, Patroness of the Missions, pray for us

A series of presentations on Mission Today – what mission means in today’s society – are available online, by Zoom, on the Tuesday and Thursday evenings of October. Each presentation is free and consists of a short talk, discussion on the topic and a chance to ask questions. For more information on the individual presentations, the speakers and to receive the Zoom links, visit derrydiocese.org/mission-month.

OCTOBER – MONTH OF DEVOTION TO OUR LADY AND TO PRAYING THE ROSARY:

If you are available, please join the Rosary Group each weekday morning, in our church, twenty minutes before Mass, to pray the Rosary. If you watch in on our Mass on the webcam, you can join in on the Rosary online.

OUR FAITH – DEVELOPING WHAT WE WERE TAUGHT IN SCHOOL:

• Was RE just a subject in school? Would you like to really to understand it in practice?
• Are you open to deepening your understanding of your Catholic Faith?
• Do you want to better understand the Mass – the celebration to the Eucharist?
• Would you like to explore, discuss and reflect upon issues and questions of faith, the Church, and how to link faith to your everyday life?
The Pathways Adult Faith Programme by Drumalis Retreat Centre, Larne, addresses these questions and more. This two-year faith development programme, delivered one Saturday per month from October to June is available either in-house at Drumalis or by Zoom video-conferencing. For personal testimonies, full details and enrolment on the programme, visit: www.drumalis.co.uk/pathways

THE BIBLE AND THE VIRGIN MARY:

Fr Kevin McElhennon is presenting a 12-week reflection and study on the role of Mary in our faith, the role she plays in our lives today, and on understanding the Church teachings on our Blessed Mother, and how they are connected to Scripture. Choice of evenings or mornings, starting this Wednesday, 20 October (evening) / Thursday 21 October (morning). Venue: Killyclogher Parish Hall, Omagh. Full details at: https://www.derrydiocese.org/news/the-bible-and-the-virgin-mary . Register your participation at info@cappaghparish.com or 028 – 8224 3375

Please pray for one another and for our parish. Please pray the Parish Prayer.

PARISH PRAYER

God our Father,
pour forth Your Holy Spirit on our parish.
Guide us in Your ways, grant us Your vision. Be our wisdom.

Open our hearts and minds to Your Holy Word,
strengthen us with the Holy Eucharist,
our food for the journey.
Help us to be people of prayer,
trusting in Your constant presence
in the challenges that we face.

With Your help,
may our parish always be a place where
Your love is known, Your light shines
and our parish families grow together in faith and mission.

We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

St Patrick, pray for us.
