Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord;

St. Patrick’s Church, 2021

SUNDAY 7 NOVEMBER 2021
THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME:

GOSPEL OF ST MARK 12:28-34

The woman known only as the ‘poor widow’ is the centre of Jesus’ teaching on discipleship in Mark’s Gospel today. Jesus singles out the poor widow for her generosity but Jesus Himself would, of course, demonstrate the ultimate sacrifice and trust in God, giving His life for us on the cross.
Our focus can often be on gathering and building up all the things we feel we need to make us happy and fulfilled, giving away things we no longer need and giving spare change to charities that come our way. The type of giving that Jesus teaches today goes far beyond that. It is about giving with our hearts, giving of our all, with trust in God that He will provide for our real needs.

Mass Schedule for the Parish this Week:

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: 10.00am
Tuesday: 9.30am
The Rosary will commence 20 minutes before Mass on each weekday

Saturday, Vigil Mass: 6.30pm Confessions before Mass: 5.30pm – 6.15pm
Sunday: Masses at 9.00am and 11.00am

For those who are unable to come out to church, all our Masses will continue to be available on our parish webcam, and our 11.00am.

PLEASE MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING AT ALL TIMES IN THE CHURCH AND ENSURE THAT SEATS ARE NOT OVER-CROWDED. PLEASE ALSO WEAR A FACE COVERING. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR CO-OPERATION.

NOVEMBER – MONTH OF THE HOLY SOULS

BLESSING OF GRAVES:

At our Masses this weekend (Vigil & Morning Masses), I will conduct a short time of Prayer & Blessing during each Mass, remembering all those who are buried in our graveyards.
Using the little prayer card and holy water that you picked up in the church, you can then visit and bless your own family grave(s), at a time that suits you during Month of this Holy Souls.

CEMETERY COLLECTION:

There is a special envelope in your envelope box for this collection this weekend. This collection will go towards the routine costs of the upkeep of our graveyard. Thank you to everyone for keeping your graves so well, and special thanks to those who care for graves where there is no-one to look after them.
We are progressing well with our graveyard extension project. This project is being funded in full from parish reserves; however, anyone who wishes to make a donation towards the overall cost is very welcome to do so. Donations will be acknowledged anonymously in the parish newsletter.

NOVEMBER SACRED SPACE & PRAYER INTENTIONS IN THE CHURCH:

You are welcome to write out and bring along the names of your deceased relatives and friends, and place these in the basket at the Sacred Space at the back of our church. They will be remembered during our Masses in November. You might also like to light a candle in the church in memory of your loved ones. (In compliance with Covid precautions, no facility is in place within the church for you to write the names). Thank you to the Liturgy working-group for creating our November Sacred Space.

‘REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER’ SACRED SPACE IN OUR HOMES:

We are invited to create a Sacred Space in our homes, in memory of our deceased family members and friends. A range of prayer resources for families to use at home during November is available on https://www.derrydiocese.org/news/november-family-prayer-at-home. These include practical ways to pray together at home, prayers you can use and tips on creating a sacred space for prayer.

DIOCESAN MASS FOR DECEASED CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE:

This Mass will be celebrated in St Eugene’s Cathedral, Derry, today, Sunday, at 7.00pm. You can join this Mass live on the St Eugene’s Cathedral webcam.

GARDEN OF REMEMBRANCE:

An outdoor Prayer Garden has been constructed at St Eugene’s Cathedral, Derry, (behind the Lourdes Grotto) for all those from across the diocese who have died since the start of COVID-19. It names all the parishes of the diocese, including our own of course, and includes prayers for the deceased. A rose plant for each of our 51 parishes has been planted in memory those who have died from each parish. You are welcome to visit the Prayer Garden at any time, for prayer and reflection.

MINISTERS OF THE WORD:

I am appealing for some additional Readers for our Masses – Sunday Masses and weekday Masses. If you would consider this ministry at one of our Masses, please come along to the church this Tuesday evening, 9 November, at 7.30pm, for a short meeting. Our existing Readers, to whom I am most grateful, are asked to come along to this meeting. Thank you. Fr Colm.

FOLK CHOIR:

If you would be interested in becoming part of a Folk Choir for our Saturday Vigil Mass, please contact me. A couple of people have already expressed an interest. I know that, in the past, this parish was blessed with a great Folk Choir and I would be very keen that we take up that time-honoured tradition again. Please give me a ring!

ANAM CARA DONEGAL:

Meeting for bereaved parents this Thursday, 11 November, at 7.20pm, in the Raddison Blu Hotel, Letterkenny. This event is free and open to all bereaved parents, regardless of the age your child died, the circumstances of death, or whether the death was recent.

SACRAMENTAL DATES – 2022:

The proposed Confirmation and First Holy Communion dates for the coming year are:

Sacrament of Confirmation – Saturday 26 March 2022
Sacrament of First Holy Communion – Saturday 21 May 2022

God willing, we will be able to adhere to the proposed dates in 2022. I will be working closely with our three schools in the coming weeks and months as the children prepare for these important steps in their faith. Please keep the children, their teachers and their families in your prayer.

CLONLEIGH PARISH – GROWING IN FAITH TOGETHER:

Please pray our Parish Prayer, as our newly formed parish working-groups begin their work:

PARISH PRAYER

God our Father,
pour forth Your Holy Spirit on our parish.
Guide us in Your ways, grant us Your vision. Be our wisdom.

Open our hearts and minds to Your Holy Word,
strengthen us with the Holy Eucharist,
our food for the journey.
Help us to be people of prayer,
trusting in Your constant presence
in the challenges that we face.

With Your help,
may our parish always be a place where
Your love is known, Your light shines
and our parish families grow together in faith and mission.

We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

St Patrick, pray for us.
