N O V E M B E R – M O N T H O F T H E H O L Y S O U L S

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord;
And let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.

St. Patrick’s Church, 2021

SUNDAY 21 NOVEMBER 2021
FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING

GOSPEL TODAY: ST JOHN 18: 33-37 ‘Mine is not a kingdom of this world’ (Vs 36)

The Church concludes the liturgical year today with the celebration of the Kingship of Christ. Jesus’ model of kingship is not one associated with grandeur or wealth: Scripture speaks of a King of love, justice, compassion, healing, reconciliation, peace, prayer, and trust in God’s will. Jesus’ kingship ismnot about being served by others but, rather, about serving God, through service of others.
As we prepare our hearts and minds to begin the new liturgical year, we pray for the grace to lead our lives in a way that will, at all times, truly reflect the teachings and example of Jesus the Servant King.

‘Let us be servants to one another, making Your kingdom come’
(From the hymn Christ be our Light by Bernadette Farrell)

The Matt Talbot Prayer Society – Praying for those suffering from Addiction:

This Society was created to pray for people suffering from any form of addiction, to pray for those recovering from addiction, and to pray for all those affected by addiction, especially family members. As we know, addiction takes many forms, including alcohol, drugs, gambling, pornography and many other less-acknowledged addictions.
To join the Prayer Society, you are invited to enrol the name of the person to be prayed for and the addiction from which we pray they will be freed. Those enrolled will be prayed for specifically every day by members of the Matt Talbot Prayer Society. Mass is offered for those enrolled on the first Monday of every month in St Eugene’s Cathedral, Derry, at 7.30pm. You will also receive an enrolment card to enable you to join in the prayer. To enrol someone in the Matt Talbot Prayer Society please call Emmet Mullan at St Eugene’s Cathedral, on 048 71262 894 or email emmett.mullan@derrydiocese.org

Please pray our Parish Prayer:

God our Father, pour forth Your Holy Spirit on our parish.
Guide us in Your ways, grant us Your vision. Be our wisdom.
Open our hearts and minds to Your Holy Word, strengthen us with the Holy Eucharist, our food for the journey.
Help us to be people of prayer, trusting in Your constant presence in the challenges that we face.
With Your help, may our parish always be a place where Your love is known, Your light shines
and our parish families grow together in faith and mission.
We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
St Patrick, pray for us.

CATECHESIS CORNER:

• Next Sunday, 28 November, is the First Sunday of Advent (the first of four Sundays of Advent) and the first day of the new Church year.
• Advent gets its name from the Latin word adventus, meaning ‘coming’ or ‘arrival’.
• The Scripture Readings for the Season of Advent blend the spiritual preparation for celebrating the coming of the Christ Child at Christmas with the theme of preparation for the Second and Final Coming of the Lord (the Parousia).
• The traditional colour of Advent is purple or violet, which symbolises the penitential spirit of the season. The priest wears purple vestments for Mass.
• In this coming liturgical year, Year C of the three-year cycle, we will listen, most Sundays, to the Gospel of St Luke.

SACRAMENTAL DATES – 2022:

The proposed Confirmation and First Holy Communion dates for the coming year are:

Sacrament of Confirmation – Saturday 26 March 2022
Sacrament of First Holy Communion – Saturday 21 May 2022

God willing, we will be able to adhere to the proposed dates in 2022. I will be working closely with our three schools in the coming weeks and months as the children prepare for these important steps in their faith. Please keep the children, their teachers and their families in your prayer.
