Parish Newsletter for Sunday 26th December 2021

SUNDAY 26 DECEMBER 2021: FEAST OF THE HOLY FAMILY:

Today we honour the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. As we reflect on family life and on today’s Gospel, the Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple, we pray for all who are estranged from their families at this time. We entrust the protection of them and all our families to the patronage of the Holy Family of Nazareth, our family of origin.

PLEASE NOTE THE MASS SCHEDULE AND LITURGIES FOR THIS WEEK:

Monday, Friday and Saturday (Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God): Mass at 10.00am
Thursday, 10.00am (1st Anniversary. John Dooher) and 6.00pm (1st Anniversary, Caroline McBride)
The Rosary will commence 20 minutes before Mass on Monday, Thursday & Saturday

(Please note: There is no Mass in our church on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week)

On Friday, 31 December, we will welcome in the New Year at 12.00noon with the Angelus & Rosary:

Please come along to the church on Friday for this short time of prayer, if you can, as we pray, through the intercession of Mary, our Mother, for God’s blessing on all our families for 2022. It will also be livestreamed.

Sunday Masses: Vigil, 6.30pm, Morning, 9.00am and 11.00am

For those who are unable to come out to church, all our Masses continue to be available on our parish webcam:

Dear Parishioners,

I take this opportunity to thank you all very much for your support of our parish throughout this past year. Despite having had another year of disruption due to the Covid pandemic, you have been unwavering in your support of the parish, not least in your generous financial support.
I am deeply indebted to all who give of their time and talents, throughout the year, to the liturgical, pastoral, administrative and ‘practical’ life of the parish. Your contribution to our parish life is invaluable and is very much appreciated. While we can see some of the roles that are carried out, there are other roles carried out faithfully by volunteers – work that we don’t see. Thank you to one and all for your commitment, willingness, guidance and support. Sincere thanks also to our parish staff, Hugh and Lorna, for their loyalty and support throughout the year.

I was delighted this year that we got our Gift Aid up and running, so successfully, thanks to your co-operation and generosity. I am so pleased too that, despite all the Covid disruption, we have been able to commence our ‘Growing in Faith Together’ project and, to those in our Working Groups, thank you so much for your energy and commitment to developing the various aspects of our parish life. I look forward to working with you in 2022.

Our graveyard extension project has been progressing well and I very much look forward to seeing its completion in the Springtime. Thank you to those who are looking after it. The indoor-toilet facility will be our target for 2022.

The Synodal process for the Church, called for by Pope Francis, will commence early in the New Year at parish level, so you will hear much more about that in the coming weeks: the invitation is for everyone to participate!

On a personal note, thank you sincerely for your cards, good wishes and generosity to me at Christmas and for your kindness and friendship throughout the year. Special thanks for your prayers. All are very much appreciated.
I wish you and your families every good wish and blessing for the New Year and throughout 2022. Despite our best hopes, we are still very much in the middle of the Covid pandemic: May God bless us all as we embrace the challenges, opportunities and unknowns of the coming year. Please stay safe and continue to care for one another. I promise to keep you all in my daily prayer. Special thoughts and prayers are with the sick, those who have been bereaved this year, the lonely, those who are burdened with concerns of any kind and all who have asked for prayer.
May God bless you all. Fr Colm.

SACRAMENTAL DATES – 2022:

The proposed Confirmation and First Holy Communion dates for the coming year are:

Sacrament of Confirmation – Saturday 26 March 2022
Sacrament of First Holy Communion – Saturday 21 May 2022

God willing, we will be able to adhere to the proposed dates in 2022. I will be working closely with our three schools in the coming weeks and months as the children prepare for these important steps in their faith. Please keep the children, their teachers and their families in your prayer.
