ST VINCENT DE PAUL:

The St Patrick’s Conference, Murlog, wish to thank the parishioners for their generosity to their annual Christmas Appeal. They are delighted to announce that the appeal raised €2,500.68. The members wish everyone a very happy and safe 2022.

THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD will be celebrated on Thursday of this week, 6 January, the twelfth day of Christmas. The word epiphany means ‘manifestation’, ‘revelation’ or ‘showing’. On this Feast Day we celebrate manifestation of the Child Jesus to the Wise Men – the visit of the Magi from the East, bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. The Gospel tells us that the Magi, after paying homage to Jesus, left by a ‘different road’. Pope Francis tells us that, “in order to find Jesus, we also need to take a different route, to follow a different path, His path, the path of humble love, and to persevere.” Mass in our church for the Feast Day is at 10.00am.

FOR ATTENTION OF PARENTS OF THE CHILDREN BAPTISED IN OUR CHURCH IN THE PAST YEAR:

Next Sunday, 9 January, the Church celebrates the Baptism of the Lord. During our Sunday Masses next weekend – Saturday Vigil, 6.00pm, and Sunday morning, 9.00am & 11.00am – I will carry out a short Blessing of the Babies ceremony, to pray God’s blessing and protection on each of the children baptised in our church in the past year. I extend a special invitation to you, the parents, to come along to any one of these three Masses, if possible, with your baby. Other family members and Godparents will also be most welcome. During Mass, you will be invited to bring your child forward to the altar for this special blessing.
During the year, as you may know, we placed a Baptism Tree in the sanctuary, which is adorned with leaves bearing the name of each child baptised in 2021, and the date of baptism. You will be invited to take the ‘leaf’ for your child home, as a keep-safe. One suggestion is that it is hung on your Christmas tree each year.
The 9.00am Mass next Sun (9 Jan) will be offered for the children baptised in the past year and their families.

PRAYER FOR THE NEW YEAR:

God of all creation,
as I enter this New Year which You have gifted to me,
I ask You to make it a happy and fulfilling year:
Not by shielding me from sorrows and pain, but by opening my heart to bearing the sufferings that may come my way;
Not by granting me unbroken sunshine, but by keeping the light of Your face at the centre of my darkest days;
Not by making my path easy, but by guiding me to travel the path that will lead towards Your eternal light;
Not by granting all my needs, but by making me see and attend to the needs of others, especially the poor;
God of Love, bless me this new year with the peace, hope and joy that only You can give. Amen.

SACRAMENTAL DATES – 2022:

The proposed Confirmation and First Holy Communion dates for the coming year are:

Sacrament of Confirmation – Saturday 26 March 2022
Sacrament of First Holy Communion – Saturday 21 May 2022

God willing, we will be able to adhere to the proposed dates in 2022. I will be working closely with our three schools in the coming weeks and months as the children prepare for these important steps in their faith. Please keep the children, their teachers and their families in your prayer.
