SUNDAY 16 JANUARY 2022
SECOND SUNDAY ORDINARY TIME (YEAR C)
GOSPEL: ST JOHN 2:1-11 THE WEDDING FEAST OF CANA
Today we listen to St John’s account of the Wedding Feast of Cana, where Jesus performs His first miracle. At the centre of this significant moment in the life of Jesus is the role of His Mother, Mary, who puts Her true faith and confidence in the power of Her Son. The Wedding Feast of Cana is our first glimpse of Mary’s role as intercessor and advocate. With confidence, we ask Mary, our Blessed Mother, who knows our needs, to take them to Her Son:
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession
was left unaided by thee. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother;
to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

VISITATION OF THE SICK AND HOUSEBOUND:
It is with regret that I have decided not to do visitation this month, due to the high COVID-19 numbers at this time. Please God, if the situation improves in the coming weeks, routine Visitation will resume, sooner rather than later. I will keep you posted and very much look forward to seeing you again. Please note that, in the event of an emergency or someone specifically asking that I visit, I am more than happy to do so; just give me a ring.
On 11 February each year the Church celebrates World Day of the Sick, a day of special prayer for the sick and those who care for them. At our 10.00am Mass on that day, we will have special prayers for the sick of our parish and for all who care for them in any capacity. As you may know, our 10.00am Mass each Friday morning in St Patrick’s is offered for the sick of the parish and you are always welcome to tune in to that, via our webcam.
I ask, please, that you bring this notice to the attention of family members or neighbours who are visited as part of the Visitation of the Sick and Housebound. Thank you.
FOR ATTENTION OF COUPLES GETTING MARRIED IN ST. PATRICK’S THIS YEAR (2022):
I invite you to contact me in the coming days so that we can commence the ‘paper work’ that has to be carried out. It is important to start it early so that all the necessary documentation can be gathered up and completed in good time. Thank you.
BAPTISM ‘LEAVES’ 2021:
Any parent of a child baptised in 2021 who has still to pick up the Baptism Leaf for their child is asked to contact Lorna in the parish office to make suitable arrangements. Thank you! Please continue to pray God’s blessing and protection on these children and their families.
Please continue to pray our Parish Prayer:
God our Father, pour forth Your Holy Spirit on our parish.
Guide us in Your ways, grant us Your vision.
Be our wisdom.
Open our hearts and minds to Your Holy Word,
strengthen us with the Holy Eucharist, our food for the journey.
Help us to be people of prayer, trusting in Your constant presence in the challenges that we face.
With Your help, may our parish always be a place where Your love is known, Your light shines
and our parish families grow together in faith and mission. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
St Patrick, pray for us.
SACRAMENTAL DATES – 2022:
The proposed Confirmation and First Holy Communion dates for the coming year are:
Sacrament of Confirmation – Saturday 26 March 2022
Sacrament of First Holy Communion – Saturday 21 May 2022
God willing, we will be able to adhere to the proposed dates in 2022. I will be working closely with our three schools in the coming weeks and months as the children prepare for these important steps in their faith. Please keep the children, their teachers and their families in your prayer.
