Parish Newsletter for Sunday 10th April 2022

SUNDAY 10th APRIL 2022

PALM SUNDAY
‘HOSANNA! BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD’

Today, the Church recalls the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem to accomplish the Paschal Mystery, the timeless and central mystery of our faith. The Paschal Mystery includes the sufferings, death, resurrection, ascension of Jesus into glory and the sending of the Holy Spirit on the disciples to continue the work Jesus began. Although these events are spread over a period of seven weeks in the Church liturgy, we should look on them as an indivisible single accomplishment of Jesus for us.
We pray that the sacred events of the Easter Triduum will be a blessed time for all.

MASS OF CHRISM:

Bishop McKeown will celebrate the Mass of Chrism with the priests of the diocese in St Eugene’s Cathedral, Derry, on Holy Thursday morning (14 April) at 10 o’clock. During Mass the holy Oils for Baptism, Confirmation, Anointing of the Sick and Ordination are blessed. Also, the priests renew their Ordination promises. It is the only Mass celebrated in the diocese on Holy Thursday morning. You can join in the Chrism Mass via the St Eugene’s parish webcam: http://www.steugenescathedral.com/webcam.html

TROCAIRE COLLECTION:

The Trocaire Lenten Boxes should be returned to the church on Holy Thursday evening, if possible. There will be a basket at the front of the church (during our ceremonies) from Holy Thursday evening until Easter Sunday. This year, the story of Thandekile and her two children is the story of courage we are told as Trocaire highlights the devastating impacts of Covid-19 on communities in Zimbabwe who were already facing significant challenges due to climate change and food insecurity. You are asked to be as generous as you can in the Trocaire Lenten campaign. Thank you.

GOOD FRIDAY is a day of Fast and Abstinence, as a sharing in Christ’s suffering and as a reminder that we are called to penance and to conversion of life.

DIVINE MERCY NOVENA:

Many people like to pray the Divine Mercy Novena for the nine days from Good Friday (15 April) until the first Saturday of Easter (23 April), leading into Divine Mercy Sunday (24 April). For those who would like to join in the Novena but do not have a copy of it, you can access it on: https://divinemercy.life/the-divine-mercy-novena/

PARISH SYNOD SURVEY:

Synodal Question sheets should be returned to the Returns for Synod box at the back of the church by this evening (Sunday). There has been a good uptake on the online questionnaire. Thank you to all who have participated. You can access it by going on to our parish Facebook page and clicking the Clonleigh Parish Synod Survey article. Again, responses should be completed by this evening (Sunday). The survey will no longer be available after this evening.

In the coming weeks, the responses from our four sources of the ‘listening’ process’ to date, ie the two ‘listening evenings’, the ‘manual survey’ (sheets at back of church), the online (Facebook) survey and the survey available to our school-children in our three schools, will be collated, to enable us to submit our Parish Response to the diocese. When that is all complete, we will plan for the next steps on our synodal journey here in the parish. Thank you very much for your participation and, again, sincere thanks to the parish synodal team for their time and dedication.

Please continue to pray our Parish Prayer:

God our Father, pour forth Your Holy Spirit on our parish.
Guide us in Your ways, grant us Your vision.
Be our wisdom. Open our hearts and minds to Your Holy Word,
strengthen us with the Holy Eucharist, our food for the journey.
Help us to be people of prayer,
trusting in Your constant presence in the challenges that we face.
With Your help, may our parish always be a place where
Your love is known, Your light shines and our parish families grow together in faith and mission.
We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen. St Patrick, pray for us.
