Parish Newsletter for Sunday 31st July 2022

SUNDAY 31st JULY 2022
EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (YEAR C)

In the parable of the Rich Fool in St Luke’s Gospel, which we hear today, Jesus does not condemn riches, but calls on us to reflect on the value that we place on worldly treasures as opposed to focusing on being rich in the sight of God. The parable calls on us to think on how best to use the God-given gifts, talents and material possessions with which we are blessed. We are asked to make these profitable and fruitful by using them to help others on their journey, rather than for our own good, and to help others to get to know Jesus better.

“Do not forget your purpose and destiny as God’s creature. What you are in His sight is what you are and nothing more.
Remember that, when you leave this earth, you can take nothing you have received,
but only what you have given; a full heart enriched by honest service, love, sacrifice and courage.”
(St Francis of Assisi)
