SUNDAY 18th SEPTEMBER 2022
TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (YEAR C)
Jesus was always strong in His teachings about getting our priorities right – about using our earthly goods, talents and gifts well to build God’s kingdom of love. The parable of The Unjust Steward that we hear today is on that theme. In the parable, Jesus reminds us that we are stewards rather than owners of what we have at our disposal.
God our Saviour, You call us into Your service.
Make us wise and resourceful children of the light,
who continue Your work in this world
with untiring concern for integrity and justice. Amen.

DERRY YOUTH is now taking expressions of interest for the Derry Youth Scholarship Programme. This is a year-long programme for young people doing Leaving Cert. The programme provides opportunities for young people to meet others from across the diocese, to come together to explore their faith, to meet new friends, gain training and learn new skills, and work with a charitable organisation. If you are interested in this programme or would like more information, please message @Derryyouth or email Niamh at niamh.mclaughlin@derrydiocese.org
DO THIS IN MEMORY programme for the children due to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion starts next week, with:
Enrolment Sunday, 25 September, at the 11.00am Mass.
Parents / guardians are asked to ensure you attend this Mass, with your child.
As a parish faith community, we offer our prayerful support to the children and their families as they begin this programme of preparation for the sacraments.
As a support to the programme, starting next Sunday, we will have a ‘Learning about the Mass’ Corner in our newsletter each week, with Kath and Qumen helping us to understand the Mass better. Kath and Qumen are two children preparing for their First Holy Communion and they feature in the book which our children will receive, called THUMB. The names Kath and Qumen are a play on the word ‘cathecumen’. A cathecumen is a word for someone who is preparing for Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist – the Sacraments of Initiation. Our First Holy Communion (and Confirmation) children have, of course, already been baptised as babies. They are, however, being prepared for the next important step on their journey of initiation, and Kath and Qumen are ready and willing to play their part each week in explaining the different parts of the Mass and the different roles that people play (ministries) during the Mass.

PARISH MISSION – Evening of Sunday 2 October – Evening of Wednesday 5 October 2022
(Introduction to the Mission will be at our Vigil Mass on 1 October and morning Masses on 2 October)
THEME OF MISSION: ‘OUR PARISH, GROWING IN FAITH TOGETHER’
Facilitators: Fr Eamonn Fitzgibbon and Sr Therese Fitzgerald
As we draw close to these special days of prayer, blessing and renewal in our parish, I ask that you prepare your hearts and minds by praying our Parish Prayer:
God our Father, pour forth Your Holy Spirit on our parish.
Guide us in Your ways, grant us Your vision. Be our wisdom.
Open our hearts and minds to Your Holy Word,
strengthen us with the Holy Eucharist, our food for the journey.
Help us to be people of prayer, trusting in Your constant presence in the challenges that we face.
With Your help, may our parish always be a place where
Your love is known, Your light shines and our parish families grow together in faith and mission.
We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
St Patrick, pray for us.
During the days of our Parish Mission, Sunday to Wednesday, we will have Eucharistic Adoration in our church, from 2pm – 6pm. To ensure the Blessed Sacrament is attended at all times during Adoration, there will be pages available at the back of the church from next Sunday onwards, to enable you to enrol for a half-hour of prayer at a day and time that suits you. Thank you.
