SUNDAY 11th June 2023:
CORPUS CHRISTI
The last meal that Jesus shared with His disciples, known to us as the Last Supper, was, in fact, a beginning, rather than an end. It was the beginning of an everlasting gift for all of us, given through the enduring love of God for us, His children. On that night, Jesus gave of Himself to the disciples in a way in which He had never done before, a way in which He declared Himself to be their food and drink. In calling on them to take and eat, to take and drink, Jesus was asking them to give themselves to Him, just as He was giving Himself to them. Our familiarity with the Mass can sometimes dull our senses to the full significance of the Eucharist, but each time we gather for the Eucharist, we are the disciples in that upper room at the Last Supper, and we are asked to give of ourselves, just as Jesus gives Himself to us.

WELCOME to our First Holy Communion children today, for the final Sunday of the Do This In Memory programme. The children will join me in a Corpus Christi procession which I will lead, carrying the Blessed Sacrament, at our 11.00am Mass. The Corpus Christi procession is a time-honoured tradition of our faith on the great Feast Day of Corpus Christi (the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ) and it is very fitting to have the children who received the Eucharist for the first time this year joining in our procession on this day. We have ‘whipped up’ some refreshments for afterwards!
LEAVERS MASS for the 6th Class children will be celebrated in our church this Thursday, 15 June, at 1.30pm, in St Patrick’s Church. Parents, grandparents and family members are invited to attend this Mass, offering our prayerful support to our 6th Class children, who will embark in a new chapter in their young lives in the new school year. Everyone in the parish community is welcome to attend.
ALTAR SERVERS:
Now that we are in a position to do so again, it is intended that, starting in September, we will have Altar Servers at each of our Sunday Masses (Saturday Vigil and Sunday Morning Masses). If you have a child in 3rd Class up to 6th Class who would like to become an Altar Server, please let me know in the coming days or weeks. Training will be provided before the start of September. I very much look forward to having Altar Servers at our Masses again.
BLESSING OF THE GRAVES will take place tomorrow evening, Monday 12 June, at 7.00pm. Please bring rosary beads and each family should bring a small bottle of holy water. If you do not have holy water, please bring a small container and holy water will be available for your use, outside the church. Each family is also invited to come along (beforehand, if you can), and light a candle for your loved one(s). Stewards will be available to assist with traffic and to help ensure everyone’s safety. We look forward to this very special evening in our parish when we honour our beloved deceased.

Protect me in the midst of danger; comfort me in my afflictions;
Grant me Your blessings in all that I do.
Within Your heart I place my every care.
In every need let me come to You with humble trust, saying,
