SUNDAY 2nd July 2023:
THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Today’s Gospel is the conclusion of the missionary instructions that we have heard Jesus offering to His disciples in the Gospel these past few weeks. In this passage, Jesus summarises both the costs of discipleship and its rewards.
True discipleship is about getting to know Jesus and His life well, through the Scriptures, through prayer and through the Eucharist, and putting His message of love into action in our lives. Today’s Gospel offers us an opportunity to re-examine our commitment to true discipleship – do we always welcome Jesus’ teachings in our lives, even when they are particularly challenging? Do we always see His face and welcome Him in everyone we encounter on our faith journey?
