SUNDAY 22nd October 2023:
TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY ORDINARY TIME
TODAY IS MISSION SUNDAY
Hearts on Fire, Feet on the Move”, is the theme of Pope Francis’ Message for today. On Mission Sunday each year, Catholics in every church throughout the world are asked to unite in their missionary responsibilities, bringing the prayers, solidarity and financial help of the Church to Christian communities in other parts of the world, especially to those less fortunate than ourselves. Our financial support is facilitated through the Propagation of the Faith Collection, which is taken up at all Masses this weekend. The proceeds of this collection are channelled through Missio Ireland, the official support organisation for the overseas mission of the Church.
On this Mission Sunday, please remember in prayer missionaries throughout Ireland and in particular, those from our own parish and locality, whose vocation has called them to serve in the Church’s missionary work abroad. We thank God for their witness.
St Thérèse of Lisieux, pray for us. St Francis Xavier, pray for us.

WELCOME to the children and their families attending the Do This In Memory Mass this Sunday, at 11.00am. This morning, in this month of October, when we honour Our Lady in a very special way, the children are bringing along Rosary Beads, which will be blessed at our Mass. As a parish faith community, we offer the children our prayerful support as they prepare throughout the year to receive the Sacraments of First Penance and First Holy Communion. May God bless them today and always.
UPCOMING JUBILEE YEAR:
ST PATRICK’S CHURCH, CLONLEIGH – OFFICIALLY OPENED 60 YEARS IN 2024
CLONLEIGH AS AN INDEPENDENT PARISH – 50 YEARS IN 2024:
Jubilee Meeting, to form a Jubilee Committee, will take place tomorrow night, Monday 23 October, at 7.30pm, in Murlog school. The committee’s initial role will be to give consideration to the practicalities and implementation of the ideas and suggestions brought forward at our first meeting and, then, to assist in drawing up a suitable calendar of events for 2024. If you would like to be part of the Jubilee committee, please come along on Monday night.
CHANGE OF SUNDAY MORNING MASS SCHEDULE:
Please note that, with effect from Sunday 5 November, the 9.00am and 11.00am Masses
will be replaced by a 10.00am Mass.
As mentioned at our Masses last week, this arrangement is not ‘set in stone’ and is open to change, should the need arise. Thank you for your opinions, suggestions, and encouragement on this change in our parish.
Fr Colm.
MASS REMEMBERING THOSE WHO HAVE DIED IN THE PAST YEAR:
Just to let you know at this stage that Mass will be celebrated in St Patrick’s on All Souls Day, Thursday 2 November, at 7.00pm, for our parishioners who have died in the past year and for all who have been buried in our graveyard in the past year. During this Mass, candles will burn in memory of each of the deceased (which you can then take home). You are asked to let people who have buried loved ones in the past year know about this Mass.
STRABANE HISTORIC SOCIETY:
The Society meets this Thursday, 26 October, at 7.00pm, in the Music Centre, John Wesley Street, Strabane (opposite the Library, close to the back gate of the PO). This month’s Talk will be “The Montgomerys of Croaghan and Raphoe.” Speaker: Helen Meehan, Donegal Historical Society and Federation of Ulster Local Studies. Everyone is welcome.
WEEKEND RETREAT, ‘Preparing for Christmas’, at Ards Friary, Creeslough, 8 – 10 December. Led by Philip McParland. In the weeks leading up to Christmas there is usually a lot going on in our lives. This weekend aims to offer an opportunity to focus on spiritual preparation. It will be both reflective and practical, suggesting ways to keep in touch with Jesus. To book, contact Ards. Our friends Kath and Qumen have been asking how the children are getting on
with their start-of-year preparations for First Holy Communion.
They know that all the children have now been enrolled to receive the
Sacraments of First Penance and First Holy Communion,
and they are very much hoping that all the children and their families
are committed to fully participating in the Do This In Memory Programme.
They want to remind you about reading and doing all the activities in Thumb and to take it with you to Mass, to help you with the responses. They also want to remind you to pray with your family and keep your Rosary Beads close to you always.
Kath and Qumen look forward to tuning in to what is happening in the coming weeks and months
and will be keeping in touch with us!
