CONGRATULATIONS to the children of Lifford NS and Cloughfin NS, who received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion yesterday. It was a lovely celebration, a very special day in the life of our parish in this Jubilee year. Thank you to the teachers, parents and all who contributed in any way to helping the children towards this day. Well done and thank you to the Children’s Choir! Sincere thanks to those who organised the lovely refreshments in the community centre afterwards. Thank you to our Liturgy Group and to Hugh, our sacristan, for having the church looking so well. The children’s displays in the church are magnificent. Well done! I am most grateful to the men who take such pride in having the grounds looking so well. Thank you! We look forward to the children joining us on Sunday 2 June at 10.00am for the Corpus Christi procession, when the children are asked to wear their First Holy Communion outfit.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION for the children of Murlog NS will take place next Saturday, 18 May. Please keep the children in your prayers this week.
THANK YOU to all who are joining in the prayerful practice of adorning our May Altar in our church. It is looking lovely and a great honour to Mary our Holy Mother. DIAMOND JUBILEE OF ST PATRICK’S, CHURCH:
A huge thank you to everyone who helped to make last Sunday’s celebration such a special day in the life of our parish. Thank you to Bishop McKeown for celebrating Mass and for joining us all in the school afterwards. Thank you to our Jubilee Committee, not just for last Sunday but for their commitment to making this a special year in the life of our parish. Thank you to our Liturgy Working Group and to Hugh, for having the church looking so well for last Sunday; thank you to James, for proclaiming the Word of God,to the children of our three schools for the Prayer of the Faithful, for taking forward the Offertory Gifts and to the Children’s Choir, under the direction of Geraldine, for the lovely singing. Thank you to Ursula and our Parish Choir for enhancing our liturgy so much. Thank you to Mr Harvey and the staff of Murlog NS for, once again, making available and preparing the school for the refreshments after Mass and, of course, to Noel for having everything just right! Thank you to Neil and his team for organising the lovely refreshments and to the ladies who baked such fantastic treats. Thank you to our musician and dancers for such a wonderful contribution, to Martin Crawford our photographer and also to Gerard McGirr, for capturing the special occasion on video. As always, our groundsmen had our grounds looking so well – thank you! Most of all, thank you to everyone who came along to the Jubilee Mass and to those who were unable to be there in person but joined us by webcam. On a personal note, it was a privilege for me to be among you all for such a special milestone in the life of this parish. Thank you, one and all.
Fr Colm.
Jubilee Contribution envelope:
Thank you to all who have already returned a contribution. It is much appreciated. The Jubilee Contribution envelopes are available at the back of the church. If you would like to contribute to the costs attached to our Jubilee Year celebrations, then please pick up an envelope over the coming days / weeks. You can return it, at your convenience, via the weekly collection basket, to the sacristy before/after any of our Masses or to the Parochial House. You do not need to identify yourself/your family on the envelope but, if your contribution is in an individual name and you are registered for the Charitable Donations Scheme, you may wish to put your name on the envelope/inside the envelope, and your donation can then be treated as eligible for inclusion in the Scheme. Thank you!
WORLD DAY OF COMMUNICATIONS is, appropriately, celebrated on Ascension Sunday each year. On Ascension Sunday, we celebrate Jesus’ ascension into heaven, having left instructions with His disciples to proclaim the Good News of salvation, not only to the people of Israel, but to all nations. The Ascension of Jesus was not the end of a story, but the start of a new chapter of a story that is everlasting. We, as baptised Catholics, are today’s chapter, the story-tellers of our time. It is our mission to live and communicate the Great Story of salvation with faith, hope and love, especially through our example – our words and actions.
Pope Francis has chosen the very contemporary and timely theme of, ‘Artificial Intelligence and the Wisdom of the Heart: Towards a Fully Human Communication’ for his Message for World Communications Day this year. The full text of the Pope’s Message for World Communications Day can be accessed on www.catholicbishops.ie You are encouraged to read it.
