WELCOME to our First Holy Communion children today, for the final Sunday of the Do This In Memory programme. The children will join me in a Corpus Christi procession which I will lead, carrying the Blessed Sacrament, at our 10.00am Mass. The Corpus Christi procession is a time-honoured tradition of our faith on the great Feast Day of Corpus Christi (the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ) and it is very fitting to have the children who received the Eucharist for the first time this year joining in our procession on this day. We have ‘whipped up’ some refreshments for afterwards!
I am most grateful to Louise and Patricia who, throughout the year, co-ordinated the Do This In Memory Programme for the children; sincere thanks also to the parents who helped, and thanks to our schools for their support of the parish programme. Finally, we are grateful to Kath & Qumen for their support; their final words of encouragement are that it would be lovely to see all the children out at Mass every weekend, receiving Jesus in the Eucharist. Parents, you are, indeed, asked to make every effort to bring your child(ren) along to our Vigil Mass (6.30pm Saturday) or our Sunday morning Mass (10.00am).
BLESSING OF THE GRAVES will take place tomorrow evening, Monday 3 June, at 7.00pm. Please bring rosary beads and each family should bring a small bottle of holy water. If you do not have holy water, please bring a small container and holy water will be available for your use, outside the church. Each family is also invited to come along (beforehand, if you can), and light a candle in the church for your loved one(s). I very much look forward to this occasion in our parish when, in time-honoured tradition, we join as families to pray for the happy repose of the souls of our loved ones. A collection will be taken up on the evening which will go towards the costs attached to the upkeep of our graveyards and grounds. Your generosity to this collection will be very much appreciated.
SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS will be celebrated this Friday, the First Friday, 7 June. June is a special month of dedication to the Sacred Heart. We will conclude our Novena Prayer at Mass on that day. You are encouraged to come along on Friday, if you can, as we place our needs in the hands of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
LEAVERS MASS for the 6th Class children will be celebrated in our church on Wednesday 19 June, at 1.30pm, in St Patrick’s Church. Parents, grandparents and family members are invited to attend this Mass, offering our prayerful support to our 6th Class children, who will embark in a new chapter in their young lives in the new school year. Everyone in the parish community is welcome to attend.
SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS will be celebrated on the First Friday of June, 7 June. Starting next Friday morning (31 May), we will recite a special Novena Prayer to the Sacred Heart each day at Mass. June, as we know, is a special month of dedication to the Sacred Heart. Each of us have special prayer intentions in our hearts and these special days of Novena Prayer will be an opportunity to turn to the Sacred Heart, praying, as we do: “Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You.”
THANK YOU for your generosity in last week’s collection, which amounted to €2,205. Thank you also to those who contribute by Standing Order and online. Thank you for further contributions to the Jubilee collection. Envelopes are available at the doors of the church for all who would like to make a contribution. Thank you.
