PARABLES OF THE KINGDOM (GOSPEL: ST MATTHEW 13:24-43)

In the full version of today’s Gospel, Jesus tells three more ‘kingdom parables’, using different images to help His followers grasp some understanding of that which is really beyond complete human comprehension and explanation. Jesus inaugurated the kingdom of God – the reign of God – on earth. The kingdom could be described as the kind of world that God, through Jesus, wants to see realised among us here on earth, where His values prevail. God’s values include truth, love, peace, humility, compassion, justice, and a deep respect and care for the dignity of every person. In the fullness of His kingdom, at the end of time, God will judge each of us on our efforts to build His kingdom on earth.

‘Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness’
