Thought for the week – Sunday 5th January 2020

Thought for the week.

Weekend of 4th/5th January 2020.

On this Second Sunday of the Christmas season we are
invited to contemplate on a simple sentence which sums
up the whole history of salvation: “The Word became
flesh and dwelt among us”. That event took form in the
fragility of a voiceless child, showing that God’s
greatness is to be found in His humility and infinite
proximity. Unlike the so called great and the good of our
world today, who surround themselves with all forms of
barriers to protect themselves from others, our God
wanted to make himself accessible to all of us by
becoming one of us. Perhaps that is why it is so hard to
recognize him.

In the humble child of Bethlehem, God wants to show
how he loves each of us and how worthy we are to be
loved. By taking the lowest place, Jesus opens for
everyone a path of dignity and hope. God had to come
to us, so that we can learn how to be truly human. Each
day we are gifted in the year ahead is our opportunity to
show that.
