SERVICE TO DEDICATE NOVEMBER AS A MONTH OF PRAYER AND REMEMBRANCE FOR THE DEAD AND THE BEREAVED
SUNDAY 1ST NOVEMBER, 2020:
“This year, the month of November, in which we traditionally remember the dead and pray for the bereaved, will be particularly poignant. We sense a huge yearning for consolation and hope in the heart of our people. We are especially mindful in 2020 of those grieving families, who, because of restrictions, have been unable to experience the customary spiritual and community supports which are so much part of our Irish tradition. On 1 November at 3.00pm the bishops and priests of Ireland will lead a short service of prayer to dedicate the month of November to ‘Remembrance of the Dead and Prayer for the Bereaved’. We invite the whole country to unite in this moment which will be followed by parish liturgies throughout the month of November, reaching out as much as possible to those who cannot be physically present”
(Statement of the Autumn 2020 General Meeting of the Irish Catholic Bishops` Conference)
On Sunday next, 1st of November, Feast of All Saints, here in our parish we will join with the rest of the country at 3.00 pm in this Prayer Service.
On Monday 2nd of November, All Souls Day, we will have a special Mass for the Dead at 7.00 pm which will be broadcast on our Web Cam. At this mass we will remember all those from our parish family who have died since last All Souls Day and a candle will be lit for them during the celebration. (The candles will be available for collection during the following week).
A special ‘Pilgrimage of Remembrance’ will be available for those who call to the church for private prayer in the month of November.
PRAYER FOR OUR PROTECTION IN THIS TIME OF PANDEMIC:
In these increasingly worrying and uncertain times for everyone, we pray God’s protection for ourselves, our families, our parish community, our school communities, and those who are lonely or anxious. We particularly remember those from our parish who are sick or concerned about their health. We pray too for all frontline workers, all who help to provide essential services and all who place their own wellbeing at risk in the service of others:
From Saint Patrick’s Breastplate
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.
