SUNDAY 19th JUNE 2022
FEAST OF CORPUS CHRISTI (THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST):
On this feast of Corpus Christi, we celebrate the Institution of the Eucharist. Today’s Gospel recounts the miracle of the loaves and fishes. This miracle is symbolic of Jesus’ desire to nourish His followers as they journey with Him on the road of faith. The Eucharist is central to sustaining us on our faith journey and drawing us closer to God. We thank God for the gift of the Eucharist, and we pray today that we will never become complacent about its centrality to our lives and our mission in the Church. We pray also for all the children who received the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time a few weeks ago, who will join us on this Feast of Corpus Christi at our 11.00am Mass for a Corpus Christi procession. We pray that the Eucharist will always be at the centre of their faith journey and their family life.
O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine,
all praise and all thanksgiving be every moment Thine,

BY STANDING ORDER OR ONLINE:
With the Ulster Bank in the Republic of Ireland closing its branches in the coming weeks, we have had to open a new parish bank account. This has been opened with Bank of Ireland. We will be in contact very soon with all who contribute by Standing Order or online, to provide you with the new bank details and, for those who pay by Standing Order, we ask that you arrange with your bank to amend your Standing Order details accordingly. If you contribute online, please edit the payee details on your online banking (or, you may need to create a new payee, depending on who you bank with). Apologies for the inconvenience, but it is unavoidable. If you have any queries or concerns, please ring Lorna in the parish office. Thank you.
THANK YOU to everyone who came along to our Blessing of the Graves on Monday evening. It was a very special time of prayer for our parish, and it was lovely to see so many people – parishioners and those who travelled back – gather together to prayerfully honour your loved ones who have died.
I am very grateful to everyone involved in any way in the organisation of the event. A huge thank-you to Martin Tyres for providing the lorry, which was a great facility. Thank you to the Rosary Group, the choir and the readers for their part in the liturgy. Sincere thanks to the grounds staff for their good work, not just now but at all times. Thank you to the stewards for a job well done, to An Garda Síochána for keeping us all safe, and to Michael Kielty and Amanda for their efficiency in providing the sound. Thanks, as always, to our sacristan, Hugh. The united efforts of everyone made it a memorable occasion for our parish.
The gate collection amounted to a very generous €2,602 and £249. This will go a long way in meeting the various costs attached to the maintenance of the graveyards. Thank you so much to all who contributed.
BASIC FIRST AID COURSE:
Clonleigh Parish Community Centre Working Group is running a Basic First Aid Course, provided by Donegal Safety Services, next Saturday, 25 June, from 10am – 4pm, in the Community Centre. This course is fully certified, and free of charge. There is one place available per Community Group in the area. If any member of a Community Group would like to avail of a place, please contact Jane on 087 2944 016.
GRAVEYARD EXTENSION PROJECT:
The current phase of our graveyard extension project is now complete, with the exception of some hedging that will be planted. I am delighted with how it is looking. Our family members who have died are always close to our hearts and we are very blessed to have such suitable graveyard space so close to our lovely church. Thank you to the contractors, McDermott Construction, for their professionalism and for the respectful manner in which they carried out the contract. I also want to thank our parish Architect, John Masterson for his professionalism, advice and attention to detail. Thank you also to each and every one of you for your patience while the work was being carried out.
ST VINCENT DE PAUL:
The St Patrick’s Conference, Murlog, would like to thank the parish community, who generously contribute to the Conference. The Conference is also grateful to the parish for facilitating donations. The amount donated from January and May 2022 was €450. With all the rising prices, which result in greater hardship for people, your continued generosity is appreciated more than ever. Thank you.
CHARITY BARBEQUE:
The Strabane / Lifford Rotary Club is hosting a charity barbeque in Maggie’s Tavern, Carrickmore, St Johnston, this Friday evening, 24 June, at 7.30pm. Music will be provided. Profits from the event will be distributed as follows: 1/3 to SVP St Johnston, 1/3 to St Lagadius COI Church Repair Fund and 1/3 to the Rotary Foundation, which is Rotary’s charity; this charity has concentrated since 1985 on eradicating polio but also gives to local and other international causes. Tickets are €20 and can be obtained from Desmond Lynch, tel 0870960840 or email desmondlynch20@gmail.com
FATHERS’ DAY:
We pray through the intercession of St Joseph, protector and guardian of families,
for God’s blessing on all fathers:
Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer,
spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
To you God entrusted His only Son. In you Mary placed her trust.
With you, Christ became man.
Blessed Joseph, to us too, show yourself to be a father
and guide us in the path of life.
Obtain for us grace, mercy and courage and defend us from every evil.
Amen.
Wishing all fathers a very special and happy day.
