Parish Newsletter for Sunday 14th August 2022

SUNDAY 14th AUGUST 2022
TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (YEAR C)
“I have come to bring fire to the earth and how I wish it were blazing already!” (Luke 12:49)

When it comes to living out the message of the Gospel, we can sometimes be ‘pick and mix’ in our choices, because living out the virtues of the Gospel can be difficult, controversial and unpopular, perhaps even within our own families. In His time on earth, Jesus too experienced opposition to His mission; people were divided over what to believe and, while He recognised that the message He proclaimed would always meet with mixed reaction, He remained committed to proclaiming the kingdom of God. Jesus wants us to be open to and experience God’s burning love for us, so that, ablaze with His love, we too will be committed to proclaiming the Word of God, even in controversial circumstances.

SINCERE THANKS to James and Louise for all the work you put into organising our lovely parish pilgrimage to Knock last Saturday, especially the thought, care, time and effort you put into ensuring that everything ran smoothly. Thank you very much to all who came along and helped make it such a prayerful and enjoyable day. Thank you also to everyone who prayed for us and for the success of the pilgrimage, including those who sent messages of support to our parish Facebook page.
A very special thank you to Ayton Travel, who provided such an outstanding service. Thank you, Jeremy, and thank you, Chris, for making everything so straightforward for us. It is very much appreciated. Our pilgrimage was a day of great blessing for our parish and, for me personally, a truly memorable day in the life of our parish. Thank you.

Monday 15 August, Feast Day of the Assumption of Our Blessed Virgin Mary, is a Holy Day of Obligation. On this Feast Day we celebrate Mary’s Assumption, body and soul, into heavenly glory, honouring the fullness and blessedness that was Mary’s destiny. The Assumption looks to eternity and gives us hope that we will follow Our Lady into eternal glory at the end of our earthly journey of faith.

Please remember in prayer our young parishioners, family members and friends who are awaiting examination results this month and have important choices to make thereafter. We pray:
Lord, pour out Your blessings on all students who are awaiting examination results at this time.
Grant that the results they receive may reflect the best of the work they have done
and the best of the teaching they have received. May they be satisfied that they did their best.
Grant they will be guided by the Holy Spirit as they seek to plan their future,
whether at school, university or in the workplace,
and may whatever path they choose in life bring them happiness.
Thank You for the many talents and gifts You give to our young people and for the opportunity of education.
May Your love be upon them, O Lord, as they place all their trust in You. Amen.
