THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD, a Holy Day of Obligation, is on Friday of this week, 6 January. Mass is at 10.00am. The word epiphany means ‘manifestation’, ‘revelation’ or ‘showing’. We celebrate the manifestation of the Child Jesus to the Wise Men – the visit of the Magi from the East, bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
FOR ATTENTION OF PARENTS OF CHILDREN BAPTISED IN OUR CHURCH IN 2022:
Next Sunday, Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, we will have a special Blessing of the Babies who were baptised in our church during 2022, at our 11.00am Mass. Parents and family members are warmly invited to come along to our 11.00am Mass next Sunday for this special blessing of these new members of our parish faith community.
SPECIAL THANKS to our liturgy working group who decorated our church so beautifully for our Christmas celebrations, and to Old Daly’s Shop who, as always, supplied our lovely Christmas tree. Our church looks superb. Thank you also to all who helped in any way in our Christmas liturgies. As always, we are very grateful to our two choirs – singers and musicians – whose contribution enhanced our liturgies so much.
Dear Parishioners, I take this opportunity to thank you all very much for your support of our parish throughout this past year. As always, thank you for your ongoing financial support of the parish, on which we depend so much for the routine costs and expenditure.
The vibrancy of any parish depends very much upon its parishioners actively participating in and contributing to the various ministries and aspects of parish life, and we are very blessed to have many parishioners who willingly give of their time, knowledge, ability and unique talents to the various aspects and ministries of parish life – the liturgical, pastoral, administrative and ‘practical’ life of the parish. While we can see some of the roles that are carried out, there are other roles and ministries carried out faithfully by volunteers – work that we don’t see or might not even think of. Thank you to one and all for your commitment to your parish and for your support of my role. Sincere thanks also to our parish staff, Hugh and Lorna, for their loyalty and support throughout the year.
On a personal note, thank you sincerely for your cards, good wishes and generosity to me at Christmas and for your kindness and friendship throughout the year. Special thanks for your prayers. All are very much appreciated.
I wish you and your families every good wish and blessing for the New Year and throughout 2023. May God bless us all as we embrace the challenges, opportunities and unknowns of the coming year. You will remain in my daily prayer, as always. May God bless you all. Fr Colm
