BAMBINELLI SUNDAY, BLESSING OF THE CHRIST CHILD:

Gaudete Sunday has, for many years, been the day when the children of Rome bring the figurines of Baby Jesus from their family cribs to St Peter’s Square to be blessed by the Pope during the Angelus. The Day, instituted by St Pope John Paul II during his Papacy, is affectionately known as ‘Bambinelli Sunday’. Parishes around the world now join in the celebration, encouraging young children to make the connection between the Nativity set at home and the local church where they worship each weekend. This year, unfortunately, with things being as they are, we are unable to celebrate Bambinelli Sunday in the normal way. In your own home, therefore, you are invited to sprinkle Holy Water on the Baby Jesus figurine and on your family members, and then say this prayer together as a family:

God our Father, you loved us so much that you sent us your only Son, Jesus,
born of the Virgin Mary, to save us and lead us back to you.
We pray that, with your blessing,
this image of Jesus might be a sign of your presence and love in our homes.
Open our hearts, that we might receive Jesus in joy, do always what he asks of us,
and see him in those who need our love.
We ask this in the name of Jesus, your beloved Son, who came to give peace to the world.
You, who live and reign forever and ever. Amen.

You are invited to then wrap the Baby Jesus figurine in Christmas wrapping and place Him under your Christmas tree, to be opened on Christmas morning (by the youngest member of the family if there are children in the house), as the first gift of Christmas, and place the Baby Jesus in your crib with the rest of the Holy Family.

Schools Assembly for Advent and Christmas:

Tomorrow, Monday, I invite you to join with our school communities in a special assembly as part of our preparation for Christmas in the parish. The short service will be broadcast live from the church on the parish web cam and the boys and girls and their teachers will be joining me from their classrooms. The short assembly begins at 11.15 am and I hope as many as possible can watch in and join us in prayer.

An Act of Perfect Contrition: Making Peace with God:

Many of us have become familiar with the practice of making a spiritual communion during the current pandemic – when it is not possible to attend Mass and receive Holy Communion.
Similarly, while the pandemic continues, the Church reminds us all of the practice of making an act of Perfect Contrition, (to receive pardon for our sins) – when it is not possible to attend the Sacrament of Confession.
As a faith community, a special Penitential Liturgy will be streamed live from the church at the end of this week. I encourage as many as possible to join in via the webcam. During the Penitential Liturgy people will be invited to make an Act of Perfect Contrition. The time for this special liturgy is: Sunday 20th December 6:00 pm
How to make an Act of Perfect Contrition
· I become aware of the presence of God.
· I take time to think of the following:

  • Christ’s death on the Cross and how he bore the weight of sin.
  • The call to follow God’s way of love.
  • The reality of my own weakness
  • The ways I have not been loving towards others
  • My need to be in right relations with God and others
    · I make a commitment to try not sin again
    · I express my sorrow e.g. “Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.”
    · I resolve to receive the Sacrament of Penance when it is possible to do so.

Date for the Diary:

Confirmation will take place in the parish on Saturday 13th March 2021. Full details will be published in the coming weeks as well as the dates for the Parents Meeting and the Services of Light. Please keep the children in your prayers at this special time on their journey of faith.

Final Flu Vaccination Clinic:

We will be holding a Flu Vaccination Clinic in our Castlefin Health Centre on Tuesday the 15th December 2020. Anyone who has NOT yet received the Flu vaccine and would like to do so please contact the Health Centre to arrange an appointment. This clinic will also be available for the children’s Nasal Flu Vaccine which is highly recommended for ALL children between 2 & 12 years old.
