Your Parish Newsletter for Sunday 20th June 2021:
TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (YEAR B)
GOSPEL: MARK 4:35 – 41 – JESUS CALMS THE STORM
Today’s Gospel story of the calming of the storm by Jesus is probably one with which we are very familiar. The reaction of the disciples when faced with the storm, initially fear and disappointment with Jesus’ ‘absence’, is one with which most of us can identify. When the disciples awaken Jesus, He does not remonstrate with them about being awakened but, rather, for their lack of trust and faith.
Whatever fears and anxieties we may be experiencing in our lives, whatever challenges or storms life may be presenting, we can find the inner peace of Jesus when we turn to Him with trust and faith in His abiding presence, a peace that only He can provide and that no-one can take away from us.
Mass Schedule for the Parish this Week:
For those who are unable to come out to church, all our Masses will continue to be available on our parish webcam, and our 11.00am Mass is also broadcast live each Sunday on Finn Valley Radio: 95.8FM

Tuesday: Mass at 9.30am
Saturday, Vigil Mass: 6.30pm Sunday: Masses at 9.00am and 11.00am
The Rosary will be recited Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 9.40am, before Mass.
The Rosary will be recited on Tuesday at 9.10am, before Mass.
Everyone attending church is asked to wear a face covering, use the hand sanitiser that is available and maintain social distancing. Please enter the church by one of the back doors and leave by the side door that is closest to you. It is important that everyone attending feels safe and welcome in our church. Thanks to Hugh, the church will continue to be ‘fogged’ and cleaned each day, after use. Thank you very much for your co-operation.

SACRED HEART MESSENGER:

CONGRATULATIONS to the boys and girls of our three schools, who received the Sacrament of Penance for the first time this week. Well done, boys and girls! Thank you to the teachers, parents, grandparents and all who support the children in their sacramental preparation. We pray that the boys and girls may always discover the wonder and peace of God’s forgiveness, and experience the loving presence of Jesus in this grace-filled sacrament.
Again, I would ask that, as part of the children’s preparation for First Holy Communion and Confirmation, each family will make a special effort to attend Mass in our church. In particular, I would ask parents to bring the children along each week to one of our three Sunday Masses (Vigil, Saturday 6.30pm, Sunday morning, 9am and 11am). The children are preparing for very important milestones in their faith journey, and all of us who teach and encourage them in the faith have a responsibility to ensure that the children are very familiar with the church and the celebration of Mass, and are adequately prepared to receive the sacraments. I very much look forward to seeing and welcoming the children and their families at one of our Sunday Masses each week.
Many thanks. Fr Colm.
FUNDRAISING:
It is hoped to set up a fundraising working group in the parish, with members from the different areas of the parish involved. With the capital works projects coming up, it is hoped that some fundraising activities will generate income to help to meet the costs. To this end, I would welcome volunteers who would be interested in becoming part of a parish fundraising working group, along with members of the Parish Finance Council. I would be very grateful if you would give it your consideration and please let me know if you are interested.

Today, when Fathers’ Day is celebrated in families, we pray through the intercession of
St Joseph, protector and guardian of families, for God’s blessing on all fathers:
Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer, spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
To you God entrusted His only Son. In you Mary placed her trust. With you, Christ became man.
Blessed Joseph, to us too, show yourself to be a father and guide us in the path of life.
Obtain for us grace, mercy and courage and defend us from every evil. Amen.
Wishing all fathers a very special and happy day.
THE NATIVITY OF ST JOHN THE BAPTIST:
On Thursday of this week, 24 June, we celebrate the birth of John the Baptist. John the Baptist was a man of self-denial, integrity of life and purpose, and an uncompromising prophetic voice. The last of the Old Testament prophets, John could be described as a signpost, pointing people in the right direction: towards Jesus.
We thank God for the generations of people who have handed on the faith – the people who act as ‘signposts’ in our lives, guiding us and pointing us in the right direction, bringing us closer to God. We ask God that, like John the Baptist, we will be strong in proclaiming the Word of God and that, by our lives and witness, we will be the signpost that will direct others, especially, our children and young people, to a path that will draw them closer to Jesus and to experiencing His loving presence in their lives.
During the month of June, you are invited to recite daily the simple Aspiration: “Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in Thee.” Parents, in particular, are asked to pray it with their children each morning.
