SUNDAY 17th JULY 2022:
SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (YEAR C)
St Luke’s short Gospel story of Jesus visiting Martha and Mary that we hear today may sound trivial or insignificant, but it is one in which Jesus gives a very clear message about the importance of getting our priorities in life right. While Mary and Martha are both in the presence of Jesus, it is Mary who is truly present to Jesus: Martha is speaking to Him, Mary is listening to Him. In the words of Jesus, “It is Mary who has chosen the better part.” We pray today:
God, our Father, You draw near to us in Christ and make Yourself our guest.
Amid the cares of our daily lives, make us attentive to Your voice and alert to Your presence,
So that we may treasure Your holy Word above all else and centre our lives on it.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
