ENVELOPE BOXES for the coming year (starting today, Sunday 2 October) have now been distributed to your homes. If you have not received your envelope box, please contact Lorna in the parish office this week. If there is anyone who has not had an envelope before and is now in a financial position to start contributing to the weekly collection, please let Lorna or myself know and we will be glad to provide you with an envelope box. There is also a facility on our parish website to contact/send a message to the parish; you can order an envelope box using this facility. The envelope collection is essential to the day-to-day running costs of the parish. Thank you for your generosity.

DAY FOR LIFE 2022:

Today we celebrate Day for Life which is celebrated annually in the Catholic Church. It is a day dedicated to raising awareness of the meaning and value of human life at every stage and in every condition. With the theme this year, ‘Caring for the Older Person’, we are invited to think about the value and worth of older persons in families and in society, and to make practical choices to build bridges between the generations. We are invited to devote quality time, energy and creativity in caring for the older persons in our communities. We pray that the elderly may always be treated with respect and dignity and that no-one will ever feel like a burden in our society.

Saint Joachim and Saint Anne, pray for us.

‘LEARNING ABOUT THE MASS’ CORNER

QUMEN: DID YOU KNOW MY MUM IS A READER AT MASS?

KATH: No. So what does that mean? What does she read?

QUMEN: The Readings are always part of Mass. They come from the Bible. Mum told me that the proper name for a Reader is a Minister of the Word and the Readings are the Word of God.

KATH: The Word of God?

QUMEN: Yes, that’s right. In them, we hear God speaking to us, and teaching us, through the voice of the Reader (the Minister of the Word). Sometimes they’re a bit difficult to understand. That’s why there’s a homily afterwards – that’s when we sit while the priest explains what God is saying to us in the Readings and tells us how we might put what God is saying to us into practice every day.

Do This In Memory:

Well Done and Thank You to all our First Holy Communion children who came along and participated in our Enrolment Ceremony at our 11.00am Mass last Sunday. It was a very special celebration and a great day in the life of our parish. Thank you to your parents, grandparents and families for your support.

Kath and Qumen are hoping that all the children enjoy THUMB. They have done their best to make sure that it will be a great help to you in your preparation for First Holy Communion and they appeal to your parents and families to help you to grow in your knowledge of what it means to be a member of God’s family.
Meanwhile, Kath and Qumen will keep on talking to you about the Mass in the ‘Learning about the Mass’ corner of the parish newsletter.
