Parish Newsletter for Sunday 16th October 2022

SUNDAY 16th OCTOBER 2022
TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (YEAR C)

O C T O B E R – MONTH OF MISSION

“You shall be my witnesses” (Acts 1:8) is the theme for this year’s Mission Sunday (23 October)

Next Sunday, 23 October, is Mission Sunday. On Mission Sunday each year, Catholics in every church throughout the world are asked to unite in their missionary responsibilities, bringing the prayers, solidarity and financial support of the Church to our brothers and sisters in Christ in developing countries, so that they may hear and witness the Good News of the Gospel and, with our help, come to know Jesus.
As part of our financial support, the annual Propagation of the Faith (Mission Sunday) collection is taken up. There is a special, additional envelope in your box for this collection for 23 October. The proceeds of the Mission Sunday collection are channelled through Missio Ireland, which is the official support organisation for the overseas mission of the Irish Catholic Church.
Saint Thérèse, Patroness of the Missions, pray for us

FOR ATTENTION OF PARENTS / GUARDIANS OF THE CHILDREN DUE TO RECEIVE
THE SACRAMENTS OF RECONCILIATION AND FIRST HOLY COMMUNION IN 2023:

Please remember that our next Do This In Memory Mass is next Sunday, 23 October, at 11.00am (not 30 October, as originally planned). The Gospel for the day will be the one in your Grapevine. You are asked this coming week to help prepare your child for next Sunday’s Mass, with the help of the Grapevine and your Thumb book.

As you know, the children are asked to bring a pair of Rosary beads, which will be blessed during this Mass. If your child does not already have Rosary beads, it is not necessary to purchase a pair – you may already have beads that you would like to give to your child; these can be brought along.

Also, at Mass on Sunday 23rd, each child will receive a candle with their name on it. Each child’s candle will be lit and will burn on the sanctuary during Mass. The candle should then be brought back to each Do This In Memory Mass.
The rescheduled meeting with Parents/Guardians is this Tuesday evening, 18 October, in Murlog School, at 7.30pm. I look forward to meeting with you there.

VISITATION OF THE SICK AND HOUSEBOUND will take place this week, starting each day at 11.00am: Monday – Ballindrait, Tober & Cloughfin; Wednesday – Rossgier, Coolatee, Porthall & Cavan Hill; Thursday – Murlog, Lifford & Coneyburrow; Friday – Letterkenny Road, Croaghan Heights & Drumboy. Please let your family member or neighbour know. If there is anyone who is not normally visited but would like me to call, please do let me know.

ADVANCE NOTICE:

On Wednesday 2 November, All Souls Day, we will have a Mass at 7.00pm (in addition to the usual 10.00am Mass), during which we will remember our parishioners who have died in the past year and all who have been buried in our graveyard in the past year. Candles will burn during the Mass for each of the deceased and their names will be called out. Please let family members know of this Mass.

PARENT AND TOTS CLUB, in Lifford Clonleigh Resource Centre, every Wednesday during term time: 10.30am – 12.15pm. Tea and a snack provided. €2 per family. See Facebook for updates.

Do This In Memory:

Boys and girls, it’s just one week from today till our next Do This In Memory Mass. I hope that, with the help of your parents, you have been enjoying Thumb, and that you are now getting ready for the next Mass, on 23 October, with the help of the Grapevine that you received on Enrolment Sunday.

At the Mass next Sunday, you will each be given a candle with your name on it, to burn at the sanctuary. That will then be your candle, which you will bring back to each Do This In Memory Mass.

You will see in the Grapevine that you are asked to bring a pair of Rosary Beads to Mass on 23 October. If you don’t already have beads, your parents will arrange for you to get them this week. Your beads will be blessed during the Mass on Sunday 23rd.

Meanwhile, Kath and Qumen will continue to keep you informed about the Mass in our ‘Learning about the Mass’ corner.

‘LEARNING ABOUT THE MASS’ CORNER

KATH: Qumen, why is there all this kneeling and sitting and standing at Mass? Last time we were at Mass, for my brother’s Confirmation, we had to look round all the time to check what other people were doing, to make sure we got it right.

QUMEN: You get used to it, Kath, when you go to Mass every Sunday. After a while, you know when to stand, when to kneel and when to sit. My mum says there is meaning behind all the different things that we do – the ‘postures’, she calls them. For now, I just like knowing what to do, without having to look round to check if I’m getting it right.

KATH AND QUMEN: All the different ‘postures’ mean you never get bored! Maybe, one day, we will be able to explain to others why we have different postures for different parts of the Mass!
